New Zealand: South Island

02

Once again I began travelling on foot, with over 1300km to hike on the Te Araroa Trail on much more alpine terrain. I started my journey at the Northern tip of the South Island, in Malborough Sounds, where the ocean begins to meet up with the moutains. However, I soon left the ocean behind as I walked through Nelson Lakes National Park, which can only be described as an alpine paradise. I was dwarfed on all sides by massive mountain ranges and surrounded by crystal clear blue lakes. The mountain ranges continued to dominate the landscapes as I tramped through the valleys of Canterbury and then into Otago, famous for it's tranquil turquoise lakes and the snow covered Southern Alps. Finally, the trail took me through Southland, where the mountains transformed back into forests and the ocean appeared once again.
